I often get a similar coupon when I have the oil changed at Sears, and have saved money on things I would have bought anyway, but not necessarily at Sears. A vacuum cleaner, the electric chain saw that has been so useful here, the electric hot pot that I carry on the road with me to make coffee, and others. But then she read the fine print to me:Not valid on home appliances, home electronics, mattresses, clearance and closeout merchandise, Special Purchases, Great Price Items, Land's End merchandise, Levi's jeans, fashion items and jackets, sears.com, Sears Auctions on eBay, outlet store purchases, catalog orders, fragrances, Kenmore PRO(TM),compact refrigerators, Stearns & Foster and Sealy Spring Free Latex mattresses, Introductory Offers, Celestial Star(TM) diamonds, Electronics, DVD movies, video games, video game systems, CD's, Weber propane tanks and exchanges, water heaters and water accessories, dehumidifiers, room air conditioners, Plus Start Batteries, automotive services, Pharmacy, beer and wine, Sears licensed businesses including Two Hearts Maternity, installed home improvements and repair service, Gift Cards, money orders, wire transers and protection agreements. I'm not sure why Americans decided that televised drama was better than the real thing, that cardboard microwave food containers were an adequate substitute for real dishes, and their contents for real food, or that cooking, dishwashing and face-to-face conversation wasn't worth the effort and time it required. Someone fed this nation a plastic crate of out-of-season tomatoes and told us it was life and we took them at their word, and we're so much the poorer for it that it's hard to know where to start to list the shortcomings." WHY 'LIFE AS A SPECTATOR SPORT'
